Brooklyn, New York – August 1, 2017 – Today, MarketSmiths, a copywriting agency dedicated to words that work, announced that it has been granted Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Certification by New York’s State Department of Economic Development, Division of Minority and Women’s Business Development (“NYS ED”). The coveted certificate promotes economic equality, and encourages women and minority business owners to take advantage of business opportunities within New York State.
MarketSmiths is one of the only content agencies to gain inclusion in NYS ED’s Directory of MWBE-certified firms.
While awaiting its certification, MarketSmiths completed several projects for government agencies and companies that would otherwise have benefitted from a vendor with MWBE status. Specifically, in 2015, MarketSmiths revised the website of the New York City Department of Sanitation, almost in its entirety.
“We are so pleased to be recognized as one of many honorable, hard-working minority- and women-owned businesses (MWBE) in New York State,” said Jean Tang, MarketSmiths CEO. “I’m excited to add to our list of clients a bevy of government agencies, non-profits, and enterprise companies that care about providing opportunities to businesses like ours: businesses that represent diversity and reinforce crucial, fortifying values.”
Jean founded the content agency in 2010 in an attempt to revamp companies’ copy and vanquish bland writing. Her family hails from Taiwan and as a first generation Asian-American, Jean, a former lawyer, faced a particular challenge stepping out of the norm of a professional career. Earning the designation of MWBE gives MarketSmiths new opportunities to scale and be recognized as a thriving minority business.
MarketSmiths will be applying for similar status in New York City and the federal government.
