Random facts don’t persuade nearly as powerfully as narrative. So when an upstart tech firm came to us for help crafting a pitch deck for potential partners, we helped them craft a story that stars their audience—and illustrates how they can facilitate their end goals.
Our content strategists guided them through every step of the story development process, and we’d love to do the same for you.
Stories have themes.
Every story needs a theme coursing through its veins. It’s the prevailing question lingering in the audience’s mind as the tale unfolds. In Star Wars, it’s: will light overcome the darkness? In Romeo & Juliet, it’s: can true love conquer all? And in this case, it’s: will our client’s unique network and cloud computing offerings help investors increase the ROI of their business ventures? These questions open story loops that create meaning in the mind of an audience.
In particular, this firm needed to speak to companies that provide technology audits to M&A investors. And if investors feel one thing in their bones, it’s this: time is money. So we got straight to the point with a pitch title (a.k.a a promise) that spoke to the story already playing in the minds of the audience: “Smarter Digital Infrastructure for Faster Time to Value”. Crisp, concise, and packed with emotional oomph.
And stakes.
With the stage set, it was time to lay out the stakes. Every set of stakes is powered by a win/loss dynamic. And the bigger the stakes, the more compelling the story. If Simba doesn’t return to the pridelands to take his rightful place as king, Scar will remain in power and all the animals will eventually perish. But if he does, peace and prosperity will return and the kingdom will flourish.
We laid out the stakes in clear detail: Without our help, companies would continue to innovate on an outdated and fragmented technical foundation. Meaning, their tech stack would get more inefficient, vulnerable and costly as time went on. But with our smarter, more modern digital infrastructure in place? Growth, revenue, and profitability would abound.
Your job is to guide them through it all.
In every business story, the audience is the hero and the brand is the guide: the wise and benevolent partner who gives them what they need to succeed. So the question is, what makes our client a worthy guide for their target audience? There was plenty to share, from their unique approach (thoughtful, strategic) to their past victories (engineers that have built for the biggest names in tech, case studies that demonstrate dramatic returns).
We articulated these points succinctly and compellingly, and then took the final step and called our audience to action.
If we’ve made it sound simple, it’s not: there’s a lot of collaboration that has to take place to get to this point. But it’s something our strategists do day-in and day-out.
